Nruthya Shakti Dance Academy (NSDA) is a premier Indian dance academy based in Dallas, Texas. Since its inception in 1994, NSDA has offered a diverse and comprehensive dance curriculum that educates and engages its students. NSDA students are taught folk dance, theatre, and theory and are given several performance opportunities throughout the year.
NSDA encourages its students to go beyond learning dance techniques and theory; it empowers them to cultivate their own dance style and explore Indian culture by providing them with opportunities to choreograph, serve the community, and compete.

For over 23 years, Vandita has been a dedicated instructor of Indian folk and contemporary dance. Her journey began with rigorous training in Bharatnatyam under the guidance of Mrs. Nirmala Sharma and Smt Krishnaveni Akka at the prestigious Kalakshetra Dance Academy. Seeking to expand her repertoire, Vandita immersed herself in the diverse world of folk dance, participating in advanced workshops at the renowned "Darpana Academy Of Performing Arts". Additionally, she pursued specialized training under esteemed mentors such as Gopi Master, Madhumati Barman, and Smt. Vasantha Aravindan.
Vandita's unwavering commitment to the advancement of fine arts and her exceptional talent have garnered widespread acclaim. Her dedication was honored in 2011 when she received the prestigious "President's Award" from Smt. Pratibha Patil for her efforts in promoting folk art and culture. Vandita's expertise led her to become the world ensemble instructor for Indian dance at the Booker T Washington School for Performing Arts. She has also conducted workshops at esteemed institutions such as the University of Texas at Dallas, Oklahoma State University, and the Indian Association of North Texas, leaving an indelible mark on countless aspiring dancers.
Beyond her role at NSDA, Vandita is a devoted mother to three daughters and a cherished golden retriever. She extends her passion for community service as a board member of "One Earth, One Chance," a local organization dedicated to combating climate change, and is a member of the advisory team for Garage Arts Project (GAP), anon-profit organization dedicated to providing an intimate and immersive platform for artists.
Mayilattam, also called Mayilnrityam, has been performed since the Sangam period, which lasted from the 3rd century BC to the 4th century AD, as an offering for Lord Subrahmanya, in the Hindu temples in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.The name means the dance of peacock (mayil means peacock and attam dance).
